About this walk
Great River Walk – Penrith, NSW
The Great River Walk in Penrith, New South Wales is a scenic, flat, and family-friendly trail perfect for prams, strollers, walkers, and casual cyclists. Located just 55 km west of Sydney CBD, Penrith is an ideal spot for a day trip from the city. The walk follows the beautiful Nepean River, offering picturesque views all year round. It’s particularly stunning when the jacarandas are in bloom, creating a canopy of vibrant purple flowers along the path.
Ample parking is available along the river, so you can start your walk from multiple points. The many cafés along the route make a perfect stop for a coffee or a hearty breakfast after your walk.
Scenic Highlights
One of the highlights of the walk is Tench Avenue on the eastern side. This leafy stretch is lovely to stroll through, and locals enjoy picking mulberries when they are in season. The Nepean River provides a peaceful backdrop throughout the walk, with plenty of benches to rest and enjoy the view.
Please note that at the M4 end, there are stairs that make crossing difficult for wheelchairs or prams. You can either continue along the river on the same side or return along the path you came from.
